In
the area of field acquisition, we had a client that
distributed heavy-duty construction equipment. He wanted
to produce an informational sales video for local marketing,
and was hoping to increase sales of the Caterpillar
brand he sold.
The video needed to cover all sides of the equipment
with many close-ups of design changes in the engine
and increased cab space. The client wanted to do this
with a creative, professional flair. We demonstrated
to the client how jib shots would cover the high areas
of the equipment and allow for smooth camera moves to
the engine and other areas, and how dolly tracks could
provide exciting motion shots of the wheel base and
backhoe areas.
Creative lighting was used with blue, green, and amber
gels to highlight the shots, including those of the
engine and cab areas; thereby enhancing what otherwise
would have been colorless and bland shots. After seeing
the shots played back on field monitors, the client
agreed that the lighting greatly improved the caliber
of the video. Having the capability to allow the client
to view shots at the field location can ultimately save
many hours in the edit bay.
When we combined all the shots with a voiceover, music,
and graphics, the client was so pleased with the finished
product that he used some of the footage to produce
a 30-second commercial spot. The only new requirements
for this additional video were a new script and another
voiceover. The client also saved over 60% on the cost
of the new television commercial.
